- Jalen went to a dermatologist who put him on 5 different eczema perscriptions (ointment for arms, ointment for butt crack, meds by mouth for itching, cream for face, and a heavy-duty moisturizing cream). She did not listen or let me talk, so we will NOT be seing her again.
- Jalen continues to sneak food, probably daily at this point.
- Jalen pooped on himself a few days ago. I think he was waiting for Jonathan to get out of the bathroom so he could go. One small poop ball came out into his underwear.
- Asthma breakthroughs=one neb this morning, last night and yesterday mroning too. Don't knor what the cause is yet.

Recommitment
Today Jalen told me that he has made a committment to not eat food anymore until after his tests. I am so proud of him that he is making such a big and mature step. I told Jalen that he is a very strong boy, and that he has always been strong.
I remember the first time I laid eyes on Jalen. I'd had them squeezed tightly shut throughout the excruciating lower back pain of delivery and for several minutes afterwards. When I finally opened my eyes and searched across the room for my new baby, I saw a big arm and a meaty fist shooting up out of the tiny incubator. My first thought was, "Good grief, he is huge!"
As Jalen grew, I began to call him Bamm-Bamm. He earned his moniker daily too! Jalen would crawl (or later, toddle) up to something, reach out his big, strong fist and "Bamm!" It would never be the same again. It wasn't so funny at the time, but today I can reminisce and chuckle about all the objects Jalen has inadvertently destroyed in his lifetime.
When he was tiny, I also used to call him "Jaylee-Boo, Super Jaylee" after the VeggieTales cartoon star, "Larry Boy, Super Hero." I used to sing along with the opening credits music, substituting Jalen's nickname for Larry's. Little did I know back then that Jalen would truly become my hero!
My prayer is that this health ordeal that Jalen is going through will produce in him a powerful strength of heart, spirit and character that by far surpass the physical strength that he was born with. And that there will be much less brokenness in the process.

Sickness
Jalen has been sick this week and has missed 2 days of school so far. He has fever of 101, sore throat, runny nose, cough and wheeze, chills. The doctor today says it is just a cold...no strep. She did not do a flu test. Why, I don't know. He is getting better, though, and has some more energy tonight. We've been doing nebs every 4 to 6 hours, including at night, to stave off the asthma.
I did tell Jalen yesterday that he got sick because his body is fighting so hard against the food he has been ingesting that it couldn't fight off the virus that came in. I hope he takes heed and changes his ways today.
Unfortunately, now I feel sick! Swollen glands, fatigue, and intermittent shut-down of sinuses (it feels like they just slam shut for a few minutes and I get dizzy until I can blow my nose and relieve the pressure). I've been sleeping a lot and drinking grape juice w/vitamin C to stave it off all week. I think I'll be okay, but time will tell.

Eczema and Corned Beef Hash
I completely forgot to blog about the raging eczema that is creeping over Jalen's body since he stopped food and then started sneaking it. He has huge patches in and around both armpits with smaller patches in the crook of his elbow. The one that has been inside his right butt cheek since last winter is growing thicker, and he now has exzema on the other cheek as well. Triamcinolone is doing nothing for this eczema. Jalen has not broken out like this since he was a little baby. We are scheduled to visit a new dermatologist on Thursday, so hopefully this will clear up soon.
This afternoon, Jalen did what I call a "drive-by". He went through one kitchen entrance, around the corner and past the pantry, grabbed a can of corned beef hash, and kept moving out the other doorway and up the stairs to his room. He ate half the can and threw the rest on top of the kitchen trash where Jonathan later found it. At the time, I was sitting in the adjacent computer room in full view of half of the kitchen, and never realized what he was doing.
We really need help.

This Week For Jalen = STINKS
Blue tongue yesterday = got Starburst from Jonathan's little friend after school.
Jammed van trunk door = pretended to help me bring my stuff in after work, but really snuck one of my juices from the back of the van and got the hatch stuck on a sports chair when trying to close it.
Major asthma attack = told me he was hungry last night during my lecture about sneaking candy. I send him down to drink Elecare and to write an essay about how he was going to stop sneaking food. He mutes the microwave (I did not even know that was possible), cooks some burritos, eats one. I call him up to check on his progress with the essay. He hacks and coughs all the way up the steps. I demand to look in his mouth while he repeatedly and indignantly insists that he ate nothing. I call his dad at football practice. He says, "Put him on the phone." Jalen immediately 'fesses up that he ate burritos as he descends into a full-scale asthma attack. I give a nebulizer, two Benadryls and another lecture and send him to bed. I go to bed with steam shooting out of my ears for being played by an eleven-year-old.
Family upset and school up in arms = Jonathan's Language Arts teacher, who is also Jalen's most-favorite-teacher in the universe, got fired on Wednesday because the county declared that Heather Hills is "overstaffed". Children are weeping; parents (including myself) are demanding answers and emailing school officials as to why the best teachers in the school are being cut; school officials are shoveling bowls of P.C. crap back to the parents and moving on with their agendas. I visited their teacher to tell her thank you for everything she has done for the boys. We hugged; she cried; I bought her a vase of white roses. The boys hugged her and told her goodbye after school yesterday. Jalen is hiding his emotions, but I know it is hitting him hard. His second most-favorite-teacher and the much-beloved assistant principal got let go over the summer, and we are all still sad over those losses. What will happen on Monday is anyone's guess, as three third grade classes are now being squished into two, creating two classes of 30+ eight-year-olds. Disaster awaits.
